Scott Brown drives his GMC pickup truck to U.S. Senate victory

Republican Scott Brown made his pickup truck a member of the family -- a symbol of humility, hard work and strong ideals -- as he claimed an upset victory last night to become the new U.S. senator from Massachusetts.

"I'm Scott Brown. I'm from Wrentham. I drive a truck. And I'm nobody's senator but yours," he was quoted by Reuters as telling the crowd at his victory party in Boston. He put back the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in a race that many thought would stay with the Democrats.

Brown put his 2005 GMC Canyon pickup truck with 200,000 miles on the odometer front and center in the campaign, showing up at campaign rallies in it and using it in television ads.  He came dressed in jeans and work shirts. President Obama even went after the truck when he campaigned in the Bay State last weekend for Democrat Martha Coakley:

Obama, in a light-hearted vein, told they should look under the hood and shouldn't get in Brown's truck without knowing where it's going.

Brown later quipped, "When he criticized my truck, that's where I draw the line."

Translation: You can criticize my views, my clothes or my haircut, but don't dare go after my truck. Spoken like a true pickup truck owner.

Climate Bill Watchers Keeping Eyes on Massachusetts Senate Race in Mass.

Massachusetts electorate are at the polls today to decide who will replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) in a firmly contested extraordinary election with implications for President Obama's governmental agenda back in Washington.

For starters, the two leading candidates -- Republican state Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic state Attorney General Martha Coakley -- are poised to offer critical votes in the closing moments of the Capitol Hill debate over Obama's sweeping health care reform package.

A Coakley win would keep up the status quo and help shepherd the bill into law. But if Brown can score a come-from-behind upset, many political observers predict Obama's team will need to quickly scramble to get health care across the finish line, given that the new Republican senator would upend the Democrats' filibuster-proof 60-seat majority.

Further down the road sit Obama's efforts to pass a comprehensive energy and climate change bill. Here, there's considerable debate over whether the outcome in Massachusetts means much for an issue that already hinges on some degree of bipartisanship.

"It has the potential to roil the climate waters," said Eric Ueland, who served as chief of staff to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.). "On a macro level at least, the majority administration's agenda in the Senate faces a lot steeper odds if Brown wins."

In Massachusetts, Brown has made the extraordinary election into a competitive race in part because of populist anger over Obama's broad-based agenda. Frank Maisano, a Washington-based spokesman for several major energy industry interests, said that groundswell could leave the Democrats in limbo as they weigh just how much to push on the climate change issue during a midterm election campaign in which many more House and Senate seats are up for grabs.

"Just the nature of the campaign and the mood right now is going to send folks who have serious concerns of going down the road of a climate bill, I think it's going to send them running for cover anyway," said Maisano, who represents electric utilities, oil refineries and wind developers for the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm.

"There's really already major concern in the minds of 20 to 25 Democrats as to whether this is a good approach anyway," Maisano added. "Definitely, I think the fact Massachusetts is even in play certainly puts even more power into that concern."

Energy policy analyst Christine Tezak sees the Massachusetts election a bit differently.

In a research note published today, Tezak said she didn't think a Brown victory would have much of an effect on the climate bill.

"We have never considered this issue to rely solely on the partisan divide in the Senate," she said. "A handful of Republicans lean in favor, several Democrats oppose it. There are 'fencesitters' on both sides of the aisle."

Obama's climate agenda could even benefit, Tezak said, should Brown win and help to take down the health care bill.

"If the health care debate gets derailed, then the Obama administration will need to come up with other victories," said Tezak, a senior research analyst for Robert W. Baird & Co. "While it is very easy to suggest that Congress may want to throw up its hands and do nothing for the balance of the year, incumbent Democrats will need a win -- not inaction -- to reverse what will be hailed as a significant defeat for their agenda and prove they can govern. There may be greater pressure to salvage an energy and climate package. If health care is shelved, there would be time to address it."

Contingency plans

On health care, Obama and Capitol Hill Democratic leaders have been busy preparing an alternative strategy in case Coakley loses.

"Certainly the dynamic will change depending on what happens in Massachusetts," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told reporters in California yesterday, according to the Boston Globe. "Just the question of how we would proceed. But it doesn't mean we won't have a health care bill."

But they haven't gone much further when it comes to speaking up on other items on the Obama agenda. Campaigning in Boston on Sunday, the president portrayed the special election as an either-or for several issues, including the climate bill.

"That's what this race on Tuesday is all about," he said. "Because it's easy to say you're independent and you're going to bring people together and all that stuff -- until you actually have to do it. And when the vote comes on energy, and there's a choice between standing with Big Oil or fighting for the clean-energy jobs of the future, whose side are you going to be on? Martha is going to be on your side."

Coakley's record on the climate issue includes leading a coalition of states, cities and environmental groups in the 2007 Supreme Court case that rebuked the George W. Bush administration for its decision not to link man-made greenhouse emissions to global warming.

Brown voted in 2008 for Massachusetts to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a cap-and-trade program that limits emissions from the electric utility industry. But the Boston Globe reported in December that the GOP Senate candidate didn't blink when asked by a Harvard voter if he thought "that whole global warming thing is a big fraud?"

"It's interesting. I think the globe is always heating and cooling," Brown replied, according to the Globe. "It's a natural way of ebb and flow. The thing that concerns me lately is some of the information I've heard about potential tampering with some of the information.'"

"I just want to make sure if in fact ... the Earth is heating up, that we have accurate information, and it's unbiased by scientists with no agenda," he added. "Once that's done, then I think we can really move forward with a good plan."

Regardless of the Massachusetts outcome, environmental groups are already planning to ramp up their efforts this week to promote passage of the climate bill.

The League of Conservation voters, National Wildlife Federation and Earth Day Network have scheduled a press conference tomorrow to call on Congress to finish work on energy and climate legislation by April 22, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. And the Environmental Defense Fund is releasing new research data on Thursday with GOP pollster Frank Luntz, who famously helped climate opponents during the George W. Bush administration.

Tornado Warning Issued For Parts of L.A. as Big Storm Moves in

The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane warning for the South Los Angeles, Long Beach and Whittier areas as a great new storm moves ashore.

The warning is expected to be in place for at least 45 minutes.

Radar shows heavy rain falling in Long Beach, with the storm moving in at 35 mph to the northeast. There were also reports of thunder and lightning across the region.

Forecasters said the storm was capable of producing a tornado, but there was no evidence at this time that any tornadoes have developed on land.

[Updated at 1:03 p.m.: The hurricane warning was extended to Orange County. In Seal Beach, officials were urging people to get off the beach. In San Pedro, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported major street flooding in areas near the harbor and ocean.

In East Long Beach, flood waters rose above some streets and were filling the grass areas in front of some homes. There were reports of power outages, though exactly how extensive they were is not clear.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is checking a report that a car driving on Pacific Coast Highway might have been damaged by the storm, but officials have not confirmed this.

Huntington Beach lifeguards said no waterspouts -- or offshore tornadoes -- have been spotted. The beaches were mostly empty while waves surged, lightning struck and wind reached gusts of 52 miles per hour, said Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Mike Beuerlein.

Newport Beach was seeing wind gusts of over 72 miles per hour and has closed jetties due to high surf, but has seen no tornadoes or waterspouts, said Jennifer Schulz of the Newport Beach Fire Dept.]

Piers along the Southern California coast were being closed today as massive waves surged onto beaches and harbors with a rainstorm that is likely to bring wind, thunder and lightning.

Ventura police closed the city's nearly 2,000-foot wooden pier this morning as a precaution; no damage was reported. But huge waves crashed near beachfront homes. "We're expecting some pretty big surf," said Sgt. Jack Richards.

Lifeguards also closed the Hermosa Beach Pier and were in the process of closing the Manhattan Beach pier, according to Los Angeles County lifeguards.

The National Climate Service issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

A high surf advisory is in effect through Friday and the National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch starting tonight through late Wednesday, saying very large surf combined with strong wind is expected to push water into low-lying areas during high tide.

The largest waves will appear Wednesday and Thursday, when breakers could reach as high as 25 feet.

"The surf is very large," Capt. Mike Patterson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division said while looking at 15-foot waves at the Hermosa Beach pier, where gates were locked this morning. "It's another facet of the weather."

A second in a series of four storms is sweeping across Southern California today, prompting power outages and fears of mud flows in hillsides stripped of vegetation because of recent wildfires.

Rain should turn into intense showers with thunder, lightning and gusty winds by this afternoon and evening, dumping between ¾ and 1 ½ inches, according to forecasters. The storm could bring hail and weak, isolated tornadoes inland and off the coast.

"It's a fast mover with gusty winds behind it, so it should be out of the area before midnight," said Stuart Seto, a climate specialist with the National Climate Service in Oxnard. Authorities are urging caution during the afternoon travel, when the substance of today's storm is likely to hit. They are also warning people to stay inside during the lightning and thunder.

"If you hear it roar, go indoors," Seto said.

Abbi Tatton Leaving CNN

After a long 10 years association with CNN Abbi Tatton  (CNN internet reporter for situation room) is going to part way with CNN.
Abbi is one of the first internet reporters in mainstream TV news. she joined CNN in 2000. During her tenure with CNN Abbi Tatton worked as producer on shows like inside Politics, Crossfire and on the story.
Her last appearance on the TV network is to be made on January 9th 2010, Wikipedia says.  But some websites reported her departure was on Jan 4th.

Abbi Tatton is leaving though but no one knows about her future planning which is still a mystery. May be she got some lucrative offers from other similar organization. There are different predictions about her future association or planning. Neverthless Abbi Tatton surely had defined her future well before taking this otherwise very hard decision.

A CNN spokesperson was quoted as saying "Abbi is a Situation Room original and has been a wonderful colleague at CNN — both on and off the air — for nearly a decade. We're sorry Abbi has decided to leave the network but we're thrilled she has other opportunities. We truly
 wish her all the best."

Alienware M11X netbook gets official, costs less than a grand

So here it is, the M11x -- probably the closest you'll probably ever see Alienware get to a netbook, at least in size. You might actually be able to pull off some extended gaming sessions on the 11-inch screen -- it's certainly a crisp enough screen, from the time we spent with it -- but the real selling point here is plugging it up to an external monitor for your FPS / RTS / MMO needs and using it solo for productivity purposes. Of course it's a good bit heavier than other portables of the same size, but what do you expect with all it's trying to pack in?

Stern sidekick in suicide attempt

Disturbed comedian Artie Lange landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, sources told The Post. Lange's frantic mom called 911 Saturday morning after she entered his Hoboken apartment house and found the bloodied funnyman, a law-enforcement source said. Lange sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep plunges. A source close to Lange's management team confirmed that the Howard Stern sidekick stabbed himself, adding that his mother had come to visit him that day to drop off food. Surgeons managed to save Lange despite heavy flow of blood. "We all have our demons," Stern said on-air this week, referring to Lange's past battles with compulsion. "Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."

Howard Stern on Artie Lange hospital drama: 'Don't forget how great he is'

Arthur Steven "Artie" Lange, Jr. (October 11, 1967) is an American actor, comedian, radio personality and author. Lange is most notable for replacing Jackie Martling on The Howard Stern Show, and for being an original cast member of the sketch comedy series MADtv. Lange co-wrote a book with Anthony Bozza, titled Too Fat to Fish. It was released on November 11, 2008, and was named on the New York Times best-seller list on November 21, 2008.

He's known for his sharp tongue and merciless humor, but when it comes to friends, Howard Stern is not without a little humility.

The notorious radio show host spoke out about his ailing friend and comedic sidekick, Artie Lange, who was hospitalized over the weekend, E! Online reports.

Stern wouldn't reveal why Lange had been hospitalized in New Jersey, saying that he was respecting his friend's family's request for privacy, but he did have some praise and kind words to offer.

"We all have our demons," said Stern, referring to Lange's past battles with addiction. "Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."
Stern, who has hosted the controversial radio program, "The Howard Stern Show," on Sirius XM radio since January 2006, also vehemently denied that Lange was quitting the show and being replaced by Jim Breuer.
The radio show host simply said the rumors were "absolutely false," and added, "I don't know where that comes from."

Stern's co-host Robin Quivers also heaped praise on Lange, saying "[He] is the most loving guy, always giving."

Since Lange's hospitalization, no further updates about his health status have been given.

Good Girls Go Bad lines

"Good Girls Go Bad" is a song recorded by American Pop punk band Cobra Starship with guest vocals by Leighton Meester. It was the first single released from their third studio album, Hot Mess. The song was released digitally through iTunes on May 11, 2009. On May 8, 2009, "Good Girls Go Bad" made its radio debut on KIIS-FM with Ryan Seacrest's show.

Here are lyrics from the "Good Girls Go Bad"

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
(Good girls go bad)

I know your type
(Your type)
You're daddy's little girl
Just take a bite
(One bite)
Let me shake up your world
'Cause just one night couldn't be so wrong
I'm gonna make you lose control

She was so shy
Till I drove her wild

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
You were hanging in the corner
With your five best friends
You heard that I was trouble
But you couldn't resist
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
(bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go bad
(bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go bad

I know your type
(Your type)
Boy, you're dangerous
Yeah, you're that guy
(That guy)
I'd be stupid to trust
But just one night couldn't be so wrong
You make me wanna lose control

She was so shy
Till I drove her wild

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
I was hanging in the corner
With my five best friends
I heard that you were trouble
But I couldn't resist
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
(Bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go bad
(Bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go bad

Oh, she got away with the boys in the place
Treat 'em like they don't stand a chance
And he got away with the girls in the back
Acting like they're too hot to dance
Yeah, she got away with the boys in the place
Treat 'em like they don't stand a chance
And he got away with the girls in the back
Acting like they're too hot to dance

I make them good girls go bad
(Treat 'em like they don't stand a chance)
I make them good girls go
make them good girls go
The good girls go bad, yeah
Good girls go bad
I was hanging in the corner
With my five best friends
I thought that you were trouble
But I couldn't resist
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad
(Bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go bad
(Bad, bad, bad)
Good girls go

Apocalypse Man, The Past Channel

Experts as well as scholars and astronomers have been talked about the way this world will finish for extensive and different people have different opinions in this regard and our blessed scriptures also tell us that this world is mortal and one day it will come to at end. But no one tell us that how and when? According to the science theories the world is getting nearer to its finish by the passage of each single second and most likely it’s end will come through Sun. The sun is getting closer and nearer to our earth each year and most likely one day the earth will collide with it and definitely that day will be the final day of earth.

Stay away to thinking about that time as it is far away and I think none of us will stay alive to see that day. Anyhow, the news is that this is a History Channel’s Armageddon Week that features a show named “Apocalypse Man”.

Rudy Reyes, a expert of Afghanistan and Iraq, is the man which will tell you survival procedure. He will try to explain you the endurance techniques if luckily you stay alive an apocalypse. Rudy’s techniques include making fire for steel wool, creating radio transmission and finding a protection for you self.

The Government authorities, speak of the Apocalypse, is more “not if… but when.” Where somewhere in the future, in a moment when, just as the past has demonstrated, a catastrophe provokes mass destruction. Which would leave us humans with little, and demanding us to find food, temperature, water, and shelter.

Apocalypse Guy

Latest updates Apocalypse Man Wiki, Apocalypse Man Rudy Reyes, Rudy Reyes, Apocalypse Man History Channel, Here’s a positive beginning for 2010: This week on the History Channel is Armageddon Week. In case you missed the showing of “Apocalypse Island,” don’t worry: you can always catch “Life After People,” which discusses topics such as “Death of a Nation, Lost Art,” and “10,000 + years after humans.” There is also “After Armageddon,” and finally, “Apocalypse Man.” “Apocalypse Island” is so named for a place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that holds the final clue to the Mayans’ apocalyptic predictions for the year 2012.

And here I thought that January was a time for New Year’s Resolutions and bright fresh beginnings. But if we only have two years until the end of the world, what’s the point? The History Channel website states: “The end is near. At least that’s what the doomsday predictions from Nostradamus, the Book of Revelation, the Mayan ‘long count’ calendar and others would have us believe. Many disturbing forecasts of global destruction even pinpoint the year: 2012. How worried should we be.(Apocalypse Man)

Apocalypse Rudy Reyes Helps us Get ready for the Judgement Day

Here’s a positive start for 2010: This week on the History Channel is Armageddon Week. In case you missed the presentation of “Apocalypse Island,” don’t worry: you can always grab “Life After People,” which discusses topics such as “Death of a Nation, Lost Art,” and “10,000 + years after humans.” There is also “After Armageddon,” and as a final point, “Apocalypse Man.” “Apocalypse Island” is so named for a place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that holds the final clue to the Mayans’ apocalyptic predictions for the year 2012.

Damn. And here I thought that January was a time for New Year’s Resolutions and optimistic fresh beginnings. But if we only have two years until the end of the world, what’s the point? The History Channel website states: “The end is near. At least that’s what the doomsday predictions from Nostradamus, the Book of Revelation, the Mayan ‘long count’ calendar and others would have us consider. Many worrying forecasts of global demolition even locate the year: 2012. How bothered should we be?”

Well, thank kindness we have the Apocalypse Man, Rudy Reyes, to help us. This show provides advice for “not if…but when…a moment in the future…some catastrophe sparks bulk demolition, leaving humans challenged to find protection, heat, foodstuff, water and security. survival expert Rudy Reyes journeys through abandoned buildings showing us some remarkable survival techniques, including making fire from steel wool, finding safe houses and creating shortwave radio transmissions.” Perhaps bad news is easier to take coming from a handsome, ripped ex-Marine.

This whole end of the world thing is all very troublesome. However, notice the disclaimer at the bottom of the screen of “After Armageddon” in among commercial breaks: “This program is a theoretical account of the worst case scenario for a global disaster. This is not a real emergency.” Well, now you tell me. I had already started hoarding canned goods and practicing my fire-making techniques. Now I can get back to carrying out my ambitious New Year’s Resolutions. Or at least telling myself that I will.
